Manchester United can win the Premier League this season: Jamie Carragher

Liverpool Legend Jamie Carragher is of the opinion that Manchester United have the ability to win the Premier League season considering their current form in the league campaign.

The Red Devils went level on points with defending Champions Liverpool, who are sitting at the top of the table this time as well, after their 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Saturday.

A goal from Anthony Martial and a penalty converted by Bruno Fernandes late in the second half saw Manchester winning this match. It was Bertrand Traore who found himself on the scoresheet for Aston Villa.

“Manchester United can win the Premier League this season, just hearing that should be enough to gladden the hearts of their fans. The more I see them, the more convinced I am that it could happen. I do not believe they have radically improved, but such is their firepower they have the ability to win games without producing 90-minute performances,” Carragher wrote in his column for the Telegraph.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s job was on the line after they lost three of their first four Premier League fixtures. Moreover, their early exit from the Champions League was quite embarrassing as well. However, they have turned their fortunes around since then and haven’t looked back.

The Red Devils have won four out of their last five victories. Even though they haven’t dominated their opponents completely in these matches, they have fought hard and earned these victories. Sides like Liverpool and Manchester City, on the other hand, have gone through patches of inconsistency.

“We have seen it so often this season where they have gone from dire one minute to brilliant the next, and their away form makes them dangerous. The biggest reason they have a chance is because the country’s two outstanding sides, Liverpool and City, have dropped back,” Carragher wrote further.

“United could be one of the major beneficiaries of this unique season because the title could be won with little more than 80 points. United are among those who could hit that mark, especially if they remedy their poor results at Old Trafford,” he added.
