Manchester United crashed out of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday evening after losing 3-2 to RB Leipzig.
The Red Devils needed to avoid defeat in Germany to be assured of qualification after entering the final group game of the group stages on top of the log only on goal difference after with 9 points alongside PSG and RB Leipzig, who also have nine points each.
However, the Bundesliga side went into an early two-goal lead in the first half. Spanish Defender Angelino in the 2nd minute and Amadou Haidara in the 13th minute put United on the brink.
Willi Orban thought he had put the tie beyond United, but his goal was chalked off for offside. The hosts were not denied as Justin Kluivert got the legitimate third goal in the second half, which was more important for Leipzig as the visitors started a comeback.
Bruno Fernandes covered a penalty in the 80th minute while Pogba scored another goal two minutes later to take to make the last eight minutes and stoppage-time a frantic one for the hosts, who hung on to their slim lead to the final whistle of the game.
While the final group game of the group involving Paris Saint-Germain and Istanbul Basaksehir was interrupted due to alleged racial abuse, the result of the game will be non-consequential on Manchester United’s place in the group as PSG still sit in 2nd on superior goal difference with nine points, same as Manchester United who are in third.
However, the French side could top and win the group with a win against the Turks should the game be concluded.
Meanwhile, Chelsea failed to beat Krasnordar at Stamford Bridge after both sides played a 1-1 draw. Jorginho equalized for Chelsea in the 28 minutes from the penalty spot after they had gone behind in the game after just 23 minutes.
Chelsea won the group irrespective with 14 points from six games with more than one Sevilla in second.
