Inter captain and leading goalscorer Lautaro Martinez is set to feature in the team’s final game of the Serie A season against Como.
The skipper, according to Tuesday reports, would lead the attack on Friday night. He is also expected to be a starter for the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on May 31.
The Nerazzurri talisman went off due to an injury midway through the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona. The injury that raised concern at the end of April was later confirmed as a flexor injury.
The injury caused El Toro to sit out Inter’s following Serie A match, a 1-0 win over Hellas Verona. He had made a miraculous recovery to start in the second leg of the Champions League final, the 4-3 win in San Siro, less than a week after he picked up his injury.
Martinez has been out of Inter’s last two Serie A matches and has not yet been able to train with the rest of his Nerazzurri teammates.
Reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport say Lautaro is expected to return to training with the Inter first-team either on Tuesday or Wednesday, which makes him to be in contention to play against Como on Friday night.
So far he he is fit to play, he will start, but it remains unclear where he will be in a position to start against Cesc Fabregas’s side.
However, the Pink Paper reported that he is almost certain to feature, whether that be from the bench or the off it.
The Serie A match against Como is a title decider as the Nerazurri are one point behind Napoli in second place at the top of the Serie A standings with just one game to go. No matter their result against Como, if Napoli win their home clash against Cagliari, they will finish second.
If the title evades them, Inter will have a second chance at silverware in the Champions League final on May 31 against Paris Saint-Germain.
Provided he remains fit, the 2022 World Cup winner is expected to start as he will have trained for over a week if all goes to plan.
