Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappé still wants to play for the national team despite feeling some pains in his ankle.
The world cup winner’s sensational striker was the difference between the Les Blues and Sweden on Saturday in the UEFA Nations League opener. Mbappe also took a knock on the already fragile ankle. This is expected to be a concern for the team and his club.
Mbappé scored his 14th goal for France with a left-foot strike from an impossible angle in the 42nd minute in Solna, Sweden. The Les Bleus wasn’t as fluid as expected as they try to adjust to the new 3-5-2 system. Mbappe’s fellow striker partner, Antoine Griezmann, skied a late penalty, but Didier Deschamp’s men were able to register maximum points trough Mbappe’s strike. Hugo Lloris also made some good saves against hard-working opponents to keep another clean sheet.
Mbappé was able to carry on against Sweden after treatment.
Speaking with M6, the PSG star said it hurts a bit, but he expects to get better and better, adding that the coach will decide whether he will play the next game.
France will welcome Croatia on Tuesday in their second Nations League game. This will be a rematch of the 2018 World Cup final in which Mbappé scored.
Meanwhile, PSG will two days later opened their Ligue 1 Uber Eats campaign away at Lens. The Paris club will also be having a busy week that will witness the clash between them and Olympique de Marseille at the Parc des Princes.
Speaking on Deschamps’ new 3-5-2 formation, which is designed to bring the best out of Mbappé and Griezmann, the French star said he likes being closer to the goal. He also said the system makes him happy because it suits other team players’ characteristics.
