Stories making the rounds in Italy say Napoli have been in contact with former Juventus head coach Massimiliano Allegri to discuss a potential move to the Stadio Maradona.
This follows reports that Antonio Conte could leave the club at the end of the 2024-25 season, just his first season at the club.
Pertonopei currently top the league table with three games to go, leading Inter Milan by three points. They are currently fully focused on the end of the 2024-25 Serie A season, and Conte could win the league.
Should Napoli win the Scudetto this season, it will be their second title in three years, having not won the Scudetto in over 30 years before 2022-23.
It will also be the third time that Conte has won the title during his first season at a new club, having achieved the feat at Juventus and Chelsea.
Despite being in pole position to win the title, there are rumours that Conte is already considering his future, amidst reports of growing tension with club President Aurelio De Laurentiis. He has the option of moving to either Juventus or Milan.
It was gathered that the bone of contention was the January sale of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain for around €70m without bringing in any adequate replacements amid a title fight.
This, according to reports, is one of the main reasons behind Conte’s frustration at Napoli.
TMW reported that Napoli have begun to intensify contact with former Juventus head coach Allegri. He has been out of a job after his Bianconeri departure at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
According to the report, Allegri and De Laurentiis have enjoyed a good relationship for several years already, making Allegri more than just a ‘Plan B’.
However, the situation still depends on Conte’s decision at the end of the 2024-25 season. Since the former Chelsea boss has yet to make any decisions, it could be until the Serie A title is decided, which could go down to the final day.
