Norwich capture a point at Leicester

Dafabet sponsored Norwich City visited the 2nd placed Leicester City in hopes of not getting mauled by the red-hot team, but came out with a better result than anyone could’ve hoped for. Indeed, Leicester City is in for another magnificent season and they had not dropped a single point since losing to league leading Liverpool on 5th October – eight Premier League rounds ago. The previous rounds saw Leicester beat Norwich’s fellow relegation candidates Aston Villa 1-4 and Watford 2-0, but the surprise was in the air from the beginning of the game on Saturday. After a fierce battle Norwich managed to hold their ground and put an end to their losing streak before it could properly begin by snatching a point from Leicester.

Norwich’s newly applied, more defensive approach paid off against Everton and Arsenal in forms of a win and a draw from the stronger sides. That was the name of the game against Leicester as well, with the home team struggling to break through the Norwich stonewall of a defense. Leicester only managed two shots on target in the first half, despite chasing for almost a half of it. It came as no surprise who took the visitors ahead. Nicely developing partnership between Emiliano Buendia and Teemu Pukki paid off once again, as Buendia released a brilliant through ball for Pukki to run on and the Finnish striker finished the play with a placed shot past the frozen Kasper Schmeichel.

The keeper Tim Krul had not much to work on in the first half, but had an unlucky bounce deflected in through his hands after a Leicester corner. An own goal brought Leicester even on 38th minute. First half concluded all even despite Leicester gaining some confidence after the tying goal. In the second half it was even more of a defensive battle by the brave Norwich. The whole team worked their socks off and kept Leicester well at bay. The home team managed three shots on goal, but Tim Krul made up for his mistake big way. Norwich collected five yellow cards in the process, but manager Daniel Farke can’t be too bothered with his team’s relentless effort.

With the draw Norwich keep their hopes of survival alive, especially with all Southampton, Aston Villa and Watford losing. Three points still separate the Canaries from the safety zone and they return home on the 21st of December to host Wolverhampton.
