Nottingham Forest signs Portugal striker

Premier League club Nottingham Forest has signed a multi-year contract with a Portuguese striker, Jota Silva, from Portuguese Vitoria. Forest brought in the forward after he scored fifteen goals from forty-two matches in the Portuguese top flight.

His form was so good that he got his first international call-up for the Portugal national team under Roberto Martinez in March, earning his first two caps. He becomes Nottingham Forest’s fifth signing of the summer after the arrival of Nikola Milenkovic from Fiorentina and Elliot Anderson from Newcastle United to strengthen their midfield.

The club also got defender Marko Stamenic from Partizan Belgrade, although he has been loaned to Greek club side Olympiacos. Forest also got goalkeeper Carlos Miguel from Brazilian club Corinthians. In July, midfielder Ryan Yates signed a contract extension with the club until 2028 with another one-year extension option.

Meanwhile, Forest football officer Ross Wilson believes Jota Silva’s signature excites the player who has always wanted to continue his career outside Portugal.

“We can see how excited Jota is to continue his career journey beyond Portugal, where he has enjoyed such a strong period in the Primeira Liga with Vitoria,” Wilson said.

Jota’s arrival is expected to boost the Nottingham Forest attack after scoring just 49 goals in the league last season and after finishing in 17th in the Premier League last season, just six points away from the relegation places.

Nuno Espirito-Santo has now improved his team’s frontline going into the next season and Nottingham Forest has now signed the 24-year-old Portuguese winger Jota Silva for 7m euros (£5.9m), as well as add-ons of up to 5m euros.

Nottingham Forest’s first Premier League game of the season will be at home in Bournemouth, although they will play two more club friendlies before then, with Friday’s clash with Villarreal, before a game against Olympiakos next Thursday.
