Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer lauds David Gea for match-winning save

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer was full of praise for his goalkeeper David Gea after he dived to his left to save a penalty in the stoppage time against West Ham United at London Stadium on Sunday. The visitors were leading 2-1 when the referee awarded a penalty in favor of the hosts in the dying second of the game.

Mark Noble was picked to take the penalty but the Red Devils keeper was up to the mark and helped saved two points for his team. Manchester United coach was delighted after his team continued their unbeaten run in the league.

Gunnar said on MUTV, “You know he’s a top keeper, everyone loves having him behind them”. “He’s come back focused, really determined, with a desire to show who he is. It’s his 11th season and we’ve never stopped believing in him, and it’s important that he also knows that.

“He came in pre-season and said: ‘I know I’m supposed to be rested but I want to come back early’ and that just shows his determination.”

Meanwhile, West Ham took the lead in the 30th minute when Said Benrahma scored through a deflection. However, Ronaldo got his team back in the contest as he scored after four minutes after the West Ham goalkeeper failed to collect the ball.

Jesse Lingard scored in the 89th minute and it looked that this would seal the match for the Red Devils but there was a bit of twist in the tale.

“He’s a different man,” Ole told Sky Sports. “He asked to come back early for pre-season and wanted to show how good he is. He’s so focused and saved two points for us today.”

Manchester United will once again take on West Ham in the third round of the EFL Cup.
