PSG 3-1 Villa: Ligue 1 champions take healthy lead to England

Paris Saint-Germaine have put themselves in a good position after recorded a 3-1 win against Aston Villa in the UEFA Champions League 1st leg quarterfinals.

The game was about to end 2-1 after the Paris club came from behind, but Nuno Mendes ensured they recorded a two-goal advantage with a sweet strike after a Martinez dummy.

The Premier League side had opened the scoring through Morgan Rodgers, but the host restored parity through desire Doue, who, before Kvaratskhelia’s strike, turned it around for the champions before Mendes made it three.

Aston Villa defended deeply in numbers but got a goal when they got they get the ball. They spring a counterattack, which leads to the opening goal of the game.

John McGinn won the ball to start things off. Marcus Rashford played it wide left to Youri Tielemans, and he slid a perfect low ball across the face of the goal. Rogers was there at the back post to tap the ball home.

Emiliano Martinez almost gave PSG a goal when he spilled the ball into his own goal but clawed it off the line.

But Villa’s lead only lasted four minutes as Paris St-Germain scored moments later through  Doue, who was just outside the top left corner of the penalty area when he cut inside and unleashed a perfect curling strike into the top corner, with Martinez having no chance.

They eventually turned it around in the second half when they played the ball across the pitch from right to left, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia ran at the Villa defense, got to the penalty area, dragged his studs over the ball to fool Axel Disasi, and created some space, before unleashing a brilliant hit, which goes in off the inside of the post.

PSG continued the search for the third goal as their English gues were not ready to allow any slip with deep defending.

However, a loss of concentration in the 93rd minute cost them a goal that gave Les Parisien a further edge in the game ahead of the villa park meeting.

Mendes was found by a fine pass before cutting inside Ezri Konsa and slotting past Emiliano Martinez.

This will be a huge test for Villa, who were outplayed by the French champions.
