PSG and Botafogo dump out Atletico Madrid from Club World Cup

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Botafogo have qualified for the last 16 of the Club World Cup from Group B, marking a significant milestone in their respective campaigns.

PSG secured their spot with a convincing 2-0 win over Seattle Sounders, while Botafogo advanced despite losing 1-0 to Atletico Madrid.

The PSG-Seattle Sounders match was a closely contested affair, with the French side ultimately emerging victorious.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring for PSG, showcasing his exceptional skill and precision. Achraf Hakimi sealed the win with a second goal, demonstrating his ability to deliver under pressure.

Despite their best efforts, Seattle Sounders couldn’t find the back of the net, and PSG’s solid defense held strong as they finished the group stage without a single point.

In the other Group B match, Atletico Madrid’s 1-0 win over Botafogo wasn’t enough for the Spanish side to advance. Antoine Griezmann scored the decisive goal in the 87th minute, but it came too late for Atletico to change the outcome.

Botafogo’s previous win had already secured their spot in the last 16, and they will now focus on preparing for their next match.

The results mean PSG will finish top of Group B, with Botafogo in second place, looking to make a deep run in the tournament. PSG’s performance in the tournament has been impressive so far, and they will be confident about their chances of progressing further.

The French club will be hoping to further cement their UEFA Champions League win last month as duly deserved, although they lost to Botafogo in their second group game.

An impressive 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid in their Club World Cup opener showed why they are European champions.

Meanwhile, it’s a disappointment for Diego Simeone’s team, who bounced back from that loss to beat Seattle Sounders 3-1 but missed out on the tiebreaker after three teams finished with six points from three games.
