Paris Saint-Germain produced a sensational attacking display to defeat Barcelona 4-2 in a thrilling Champions League encounter at the Parc des Princes, ending the Spanish side’s 11-match unbeaten start to the season.
Desire Doue, Lucas Hernandez, Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz scored for the defending champions, while Xavi Espart and Lamine Yamal found the net for Barcelona in a match filled with spectacular goals and dramatic momentum shifts.
PSG started aggressively, pressing Barcelona high up the pitch and creating several early opportunities. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia struck the post just 79 seconds into the contest after Pedri lost possession, while Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia made important saves to deny Doue and Ousmane Dembele.
Barcelona also threatened on the counterattack, but Raphinha failed to beat Matvey Safonov after receiving a pass from Anthony Gordon.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 38th minute when Doue capitalised on another Barcelona defensive mistake. The youngster drove towards the penalty area before firing a powerful low effort into the bottom corner.
Barcelona nearly responded before the interval, but Safonov denied Fermin Lopez in a one-on-one situation.
The visitors eventually equalised 10 minutes after the restart through 19-year-old defender Xavi Espart, who surged into the penalty area and smashed a fierce shot past Safonov at his near post.
Barcelona then appeared to gain control, with Ferran Torres striking the woodwork during a dangerous counterattack.
However, PSG regained their advantage when Lucas Hernandez rose above the Barcelona defence to power home a header from a corner.
The drama continued as teenage sensation Lamine Yamal produced a moment of individual brilliance. The Barcelona winger turned Warren Zaire-Emery, raced into the box and squeezed an extraordinary finish between Safonov and the near post to make it 2-2.
Barcelona’s celebrations were short-lived.
Less than two minutes later, Vitinha restored PSG’s lead with a spectacular volley. The Portuguese midfielder controlled a clearance on his chest before unleashing a stunning strike into the bottom corner.
Fabian Ruiz then completed the scoring five minutes later, converting Achraf Hakimi’s low delivery at the far post to seal an impressive victory for the French champions.
The result takes PSG to nine points in the Champions League standings, while Barcelona remain on six after suffering their first defeat of the campaign.
PSG will next travel to Spain to face Villarreal on Tuesday, November 3, while Barcelona will welcome Aston Villa to Camp Nou on the same evening. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 20:00 GMT.
