PSG complete revenge mission on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

Paris Saint-Germain ensured that any hope of a comeback by Chelsea were dashed as they cruised to a 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League round of 16 return leg.

The defending champions have therefore progressed to the quarter finals on 8-2 aggregate after winning the first leg 5-2 last week.

The visitors went ahead six minutes into the clash to give the Blues a further mountain to climb. They added to their suffering by netting the second half as they coasted to victory.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored his 7th goal in the Champions League, punishing Mamadou Sarr for his mistake. He has scored three goals against Chelsea.

He is the first Georgian international to have moved into double figures of goals in the competition, having scored 12 so far. Kvaratskhelia also has four assists in the Champions League this season.

This is the worst Liam Rosenior men had suffered in the competition as they became a team with a record of the joint-heaviest two-legged Champions League defeat.

Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring in the 6th minute, as Bradley Barcola made it two with their second shot of the game in the 14th minute.

PSG ended the tie when substitute Senny Mayulu scored to pile further misery on Chelsea in this last‑16 meeting.

Sarr got punished for his hesitant defending as Kvaratskhelia reached the ball first before driving a low left‑footed shot into the net.

Chelsea mounted a flurry of attacks as the search for an equaliser through Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez, Pedro Neto, and Trevoh Chalobah.

However, PSG struck again, punishing Moises Caicedo for losing possession in midfield. PSG broke forward, and Barcola produced a superb first touch with his weaker left foot before half‑volleying into the top corner to double the lead.

Although Chelsea continued to attack, which came from good opportunities created through Joao Pedro, Palmer, and Jorrel Hato, they failed to score at least a goal as they conceded big chances on the break to Kvaratskhelia and Barcola.

Joao Pedro was again close to reducing the deficit as he went close in the 56th minute.

Rosenior took off star players Palmer, Fernandez, and Joao Pedro, and the substitute made an effort in reducing the scoreline.

Substitute Liam Delap couldn’t score from close range.

19-year-old  Mayulu then scored the third as he curled a stunning shot from just inside the box to add a third on the night, building a staggering 8-2 win on aggregate.

Chelsea then suffered an injury blow when defender Trevor Chalobah was stretchered off, leaving the hosts down to 10 men for the final minutes.

PSG will face the winner of Liverpool versus Galatasaray, with the Turkish club. The Turkish champions will take a 1-0 lead into the second leg at Anfield tonight.
