Ralf Rangnick highly impressed with Manchester United youngster Mason Greenwood

Manchester United had already assured their place in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League. So the last match against Young Boys was like an opportunity for Ralph Rangnick to check out the talent that is in store at Old Trafford. So the German tactician made 11 changes to the lineup and fielded a very inexperienced side against the Swiss side.

The Red Devils fared pretty well but could only manage a 1-1 draw against the Young Boys. United created a lot of chances but were wasteful in front of the goal. However, Greenwood scored the only goal as the youngster came up with a brilliant acrobatic volley to slot it past the Young Boys custodian.

Ralf Rangnick was very impressed with greenwood’s performance as he highlighted how the youngster can score goals and also has the ability to create chances for others. “I think today he also showed not only the quality because of that beautiful goal, but also the way that he set up the opportunity for Juan Mata was brilliant,” the German said.

Rangnick added how it is not about one or two performances as he believes in continuity. But the German tactician pointed out how the youngster is equally capable on either foot and is technically sound.

“He’s a massive talent – left foot, right foot, good on the ball. Also, the way that he set up the goal for Fred on Sunday, so it’s about continuity, ” Rangnick added.

The former RB Leipzig manager, who has joined the club on an interim basis to fill up the void left by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer pointed out how Greenwood needs to improve physically. However, he was very impressed with his technical ability. Rangnick believes that the youngster can be a regular starter for United if he improves on certain areas of his game.

“He has to develop physically but technically for his age, he is a great player. My job is to develop him, to make an athlete out of him and if he manages to do that, he can become a regular player for this club.

Manchester United are currently sixth in the Premier League points table and Rangnick will have some work to do as the Red Devils take on Norwich City next in the league.
