Real Sociedad win to stay top of the La Liga table

Real Sociedad remained at the top of the La Liga table on Sunday evening after defeating Osasuna 2-0.

Sociedad were trailing Real Madrid, who won 2-1 against high-flying Rayo Vallecano, before the game.

Osasuna who sit in seventh position proved a hard nut to crack as the game ended goalless in the first half.

However, Mike Merino opened the scoring in the 72nd minute before Adnan Januzaj doubled it from the spot, ten minutes later.

The win keeps them one point ahead of Real Madrid having played a game more than the Los Blancos who took a huge win of Rayo Vallecano.

Toni Kroos opened the scoring in the 14th minute before Karim Benzema made it 2-0 from the spot seven minutes before the break.

Radamel Falcao continued his rich scoring form as he pulled one back in the 76th minute of the game.

In a dramatic game on Sunday Atletico Madrid were held to a 3-3 draw by Valencia at the Estadio Mestella.

Luis Suarez had given Atletico Madrid a lead in the first half with a goal in the 35th minute but an own goal by Stefan Savic gave Valencia the equalizer early in the second half.

Quickfire goals from Antoine Griezmann and Sime Vrsaljko in the 58th and 60th minutes gave Diego Simeone’s side what was the winner, or it felt so until a dramatic added time that saw the hosts score two late goals.

85th minute substitute, Hugo Duro, scored a late brace, one in the 92nd and the other in the 96th minute to share the spoils

Consequences of the result means that the defending champions are now five points behind leaders Real Sociedad while Valencia is in 10th levelled on point with Barcelona in 9th position.

The Catalans had confirmed Xavi Hernandez as their new manager but the result against Celta Vigo would go on to dampen the excitement of the Barca fans after a 3-3 draw.
