Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt another major setback after forward Richarlison was ruled out for up to seven weeks with a hamstring injury. The 28-year-old has been Spurs’ most reliable attacking player this season, scoring seven goals in 21 Premier League matches, and his absence comes at a difficult time for the north London club.
Richarlison’s injury adds to a challenging period for Tottenham Hotspur, who have struggled for consistency in recent weeks. Spurs have won just one of their past seven matches in all competitions and were knocked out of the FA Cup by Aston Villa at the weekend. They currently sit 14th in the Premier League table, well below expectations.
Off the pitch, Tottenham confirmed on Thursday that former Netherlands international John Heitinga has joined the club as an assistant coach. The former Everton defender brings added experience to the coaching staff as Spurs look to turn their season around.
Attention now turns to Saturday’s London derby, with Thomas Frank’s side set to host West Ham United at 15:00 GMT. The match represents a key opportunity for Spurs to regain momentum in front of their home supporters.
There is some positive news on the squad front. Midfielders Lucas Bergvall and Yves Bissouma are both back available after recent absences. Full-back Destiny Udogie and striker Dominic Solanke could also feature against the Hammers, offering Frank more options as he reshapes his starting lineup in Richarlison’s absence.
Tottenham have also strengthened with the signing of England midfielder Conor Gallagher, 25, from Atletico Madrid for £35m. Frank was full of praise for the new arrival, calling him a “top signing.”
“First and foremost he is a very good player, great experience in the Premier League, also in La Liga, captained teams,” the Dane said.
“So that character, that leadership, that experience, and still young with plenty of development to reach, but coming in at a good level, bringing his pressing abilities, his directness, scoring goals, but also being able to find good positions on the pitch.”
With injuries mounting and pressure increasing, Saturday’s derby could prove crucial in shaping Tottenham’s immediate future.
