Roma strikers deliver victory against Lecce

The strikers of AS Roma seem to have hit their scoring form at a good time as both Evan Ferguson and Artem Dovbyk scored precious goals that secured maximum points for the Gialorossi.

However, the capital club have suffered a blow as the Ukrainian limped off with yet another injury.

The Giallorossi came into the clash following a controversial 1-0 defeat to Atalanta, which made Juventus catch them in joint fourth place. 

After Ylber Ramadani’s early effort was charged down, Roma went ahead early in the game when Paulo Dybala’s disguised pass released Evan Ferguson, who took a touch and drilled into the near bottom corner from 15 yards.

Roma thought they had doubled their lead when Pisilli had the ball in the net too from Wesley’s assist, only for the goal to be chalked off due to offside.

Wladimiro Falcone stopped the visitors from doubling their lead when he used his legs to parry a Ferguson finish at the near post.

 Lecce had a chance to level matters on 59 minutes when Konan N’Dri pulled back from the right, but Santiago Pierotti horribly shanked the finish from 12 yards.

Dybala also failed to take an opportunity as he redirected the powerful but wayward Wesley strike.

After an untroubled Mile Svilar had N’Dri’s effort in his grasp, Bryan Cristante, in a more advanced role, fired over from Dybala’s assist.

Roma eventually doubled their advantage when Dybala’s corner was flicked on to Pisilli, a control and half-volley turning into an accidental assist for Dovbyk to turn in from close range.

However, Dovbyk sustained an injury as he was seen clutching the back of his thigh, and the substitute limped off. 

 Cristante got involved in a scuffle as he was trying to slow play down to get treatment for the striker. His booking means will be suspended for the Serie A clash against Sassuolo.

The win puts Roma in the 4th spot, with three points separating them from Juventus, which will play Sassuolo in a late kick off.
