Sampdoria hands Inter first defeat of the year

Sampdoria has ended inter Milan’s eight games unbeaten run with a 2-1 loss.

The goals from the hosts came from two former Nerazzurri players.

Alexis Sanchez couldn’t put the visitors in the driving seat as his penalty was saved by Emil Audero,  while Ashley Young also fired the rebound onto the woodwork.

Former Inter winger, Antonio Candreva gave the Samps the lead from the penalty spot after  Nicolò Barella handled the ball in the box 18. Keita Balde Diao then doubled Sampdoria’s lead from a sensational work by Mikkel Damsgaard.

Inter reduced the deficit with a headed goal from Stefan de Vrij, while Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez were denied by the goalie Audero.

Despite the defeat, Inter is still second on the log with 36 points. This is a set back for their chase of the Serie A title as they continue to drop further points that would have seen them overtake AC Milan on the summit temporarily.

Reacting to the game’s outcome, Inter coach, Antonio Conte says Lady Luck forgot about his team, adding that they deserve more.

While describing the situation as strange,  he noted that his team created many chances, but couldn’t just find the cutting edge.

In the other games, Atalanta walloped Parma with alarming ease with a 3-0 victory.

La Dea secured maximum points with Josip Ilicic, Luis Muriel and Duvan Zapata, who came in for the Colombian.

Genoa recorded a 2- victory over Genoa with Jeremie Boga and Giacomo Raspadori to hand Davide Ballardini first defeat on his birthday.

The hosts opened the scoring after Manuel Locatelli’s magnificent cross-field pass reached  Boga, who controlled down the left flicked it around Andrea Masiello before burying the angled drive.

Genoa restored parity through Eldor Shomurodov’s headed goal after climbing above the crowd.

Sassuolo then restored their lead which turned out to be the winner after Boga’s cross found Giacomo Raspadori, who produced a towering header past Mattia Perin.

Meanwhile, AC Milan lost their first game of the Serie A season, as Juventus defeated them 3-1.
