La Liga club Sevilla have managed to sign Manchester United defender Alex Telles on a season-long loan. The deal for the defender does not have an option to buy, but the La Liga club side will be in charge of his salary.
Telles joined Manchester United from Portuguese side FC Porto in 2020, and although he played some games in this summer pre-season for Manchester United, his chances in the new season are limited after the Red Devils secured the signing of Dutch defender Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord and Lisandro Martinez from Ajax.
The move will help Telles in his bid to make the FIFA World Cup squad for Brazil after returning to the team in January for some of their world cup qualifiers; prior to that, he was out of the national team for 14 months.
The 29-year-old cost Manchester United 13.5 million pounds and only managed 50 appearances in two seasons.
Last season Telles played 21 Premier League matches, and with Luke Shaw’s availability and the arrival of Tyrell Malacia, he becomes surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
The defender appreciated his United contingent promising to follow the club’s progress during the season.
“I am honoured by this opportunity. I arrive with a lot of desire to add and get the best possible results for Sevilla. I can’t wait to debut and be able to help my teammates.” Telles posted online.
Sevilla has played 5 pre-season games so far and will face Cadiz on Saturday before their first La Liga game of the season against Osasuna on Friday the 12th of August. They notably lost 6-0 to Arsenal in the Emirates cup last week.
The five-time UEFA Europa League winners finished fourth in the La Liga last season and will play in the UEFA Champions League this season.
