Reports have emerged from France that Ligue 1 side OGC Nice are considering signing former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu.
The 36-year-old is available on a free transfer and could be signed as back-up to 23-year-old Marcin Bulka.
According to L’Équipe, Nice are in the market for a back-up goalkeeper after the mutual agreement on termination of Kasper Schmeichel’s contract on deadline day.
Sirigu already had an experience in France, having joined PSG from Palermo in 2011 for just under €4m.
He had a series of loan spells while on the book of Les Parisiens, featuring in 190 games.
The Italian shot-stopper also had spells at Torino, Genoa, Napoli, and Fiorentina.
His contract at the Florence club that emerged as runners-up in last season’s Europa Conference League expired at the end of last season, and he is therefore available for free.
With this latest report, the Italian could return to France after six years of his departure from PSG.
If he is signed, Sirigu would be back-up to Bulka, whose position as first-choice is not in question.
However, Nice are not considering only Sirigu in the goalkeeping department, but internal figures within the club are pushing to bring the experienced Italian goalkeeper to the Allianz Riviera.
It was reported that wantaway Tottenham Hotspurs goalie Hugo Lloris is also being considered.
But OGC Nice sporting director Florent Ghisolfi has branded the report as an “agent maneuver.”
It 2as reported that the 36-year-old 2018 World Cup winner almost completed a move to his former club.
The Telegraph’s Matt Law reported that Nice tried to bring Lloris, who rejected a move to Lazio and Newcastle United, back to the club on transfer deadline day.
It was gathered that France’s most-capped player also rejected his formative club in the dying hours of the window.
