Tammy Abraham has completed an £18.25 million move back to Aston Villa, marking a high-profile return to the Premier League and a reunion with a club that played a key role in his early career. The 28-year-old striker has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract as Villa continue to reinforce their squad during a remarkable title challenge.
Abraham returns to England for the first time since leaving AS Roma in 2021. He had been on loan at Besiktas, who activated an £11 million purchase option earlier this week. Villa then agreed to pay €21 million (£18.25m) to secure the striker’s services permanently.
Villa manager Unai Emery had been actively searching for attacking depth to support Ollie Watkins, and Abraham has long been admired by the club’s hierarchy. His previous loan spell during the 2018–19 season remains fondly remembered, as he scored 26 goals in 40 appearances to help Villa win promotion from the Championship.
“Some clubs play a big part in your journey and stay with you,” Abraham said after completing the move. “I’ve scored goals, faced challenges, and grown as a player and as a man. I’m back at Aston Villa, ready to work and give everything.”
As part of the deal, teenage midfielder Yasin Ozcan will move from Villa to Besiktas, having spent this season on loan at Anderlecht. Villa’s president of football operations, Roberto Olabe, was present in Turkey last week to watch Abraham in action as Besiktas edged Kayserispor 1–0.
Abraham could make his Villa return against Brentford on Sunday, although he is not registered for Thursday’s Europa League clash with Red Bull Salzburg.
Meanwhile, former Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz is set for a loan return. The 27-year-old is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest from Juventus, but is expected to leave before Monday’s deadline.
Villa currently sit third in the Premier League, four points behind leaders Arsenal, after a 2–0 win over Newcastle United. Abraham’s arrival adds proven pedigree and experience to a squad already dreaming big.
