Norwich City’s striker Teemu Pukki was on target for his national team on Sunday evening as Finland beat Bulgaria 2-1 in the UEFA Nations League.
The Fins have already qualified for the Euro Championships slated for 2021, but they seek promotion into League A of the Nation’s league.
In Group 4 of the League B of the competition, Finland is sitting second on the log with 12 points from 5 games, one behind table-toppers Wales.
Pukki played only the final ten minutes of Finland’s 2-0 win over World Champions France in a friendly game in Paris on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old had failed to score for Norwich City since his brace in the Canaries 3-1 win against Bristol City on the 30th of October.
He fired blanks against Millwall and Swansea in the Championship, but it took Pukki seven minutes to score against the Bulgarians who had just one win in their previous five games.
Robert Taylor played in Teemu Pukki who slotted the ball into the bottom left corner to open the scoring before turning provider for Robin Lod just before half time. The goal for Pukki is his 26th international goal for the country.
Bulgaria had chances to equalise, but despite having two penalties in the second, Bulgaria could only score one as Finland held on for a victory.
Elsewhere, there was a rare start for goalkeeper Tim Krul for the Netherlands in their 3-1 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
It was the Canaries’ goalkeeper’s first start for the national in 5 years.
Meanwhile, Adam Idah was in action from start to the 74th minute as Northern Ireland lost 1-0 to Wales while Kenny McLean was on parade for 90 minutes for Scotland in a 1-0 loss to Slovakia.
