Tottenham Hotspur have named Thomas Frank as their new head coach on a contract running until 2028, replacing Ange Postecoglou, who was dismissed earlier this month.
Despite leading Spurs to their first major trophy in 17 years with a Europa League final victory over Manchester United, Postecoglou’s poor domestic record—culminating in a 17th-place Premier League finish—cost him his job.
Frank, 51, arrives from Brentford, where he spent seven years transforming the club from Championship contenders to a solid Premier League outfit.
Under his leadership, Brentford earned promotion in 2021 and went on to achieve mid-table finishes, including a top-10 placement last season.
His tenure at Brentford saw him win 54 of 152 Premier League matches, collecting 200 points in the top flight.
Joining Frank at Spurs are several key backroom staff. Justin Cochrane will serve as assistant coach, while Chris Haslam and Joe Newton—Brentford’s head of performance and first-team analyst respectively—also make the switch.
Additionally, Andreas Georgson, formerly of Manchester United, joins as another assistant. Brentford paid tribute to Frank, praising his leadership, emotional intelligence, and role in shaping the club’s culture.
Frank is expected to bring a more methodical and data-driven approach to Tottenham. Unlike Postecoglou’s aggressive, high-line tactics, Frank prefers calculated play, with minimal long-range shots and a selective approach to crossing.
Brentford registered the fewest shots from outside the box and relied heavily on aerial duels—1,210 last season, the most in the league.
Spurs fans should prepare for a shift in discipline and strategy. Brentford committed significantly fewer fouls than Tottenham, with only Manchester City boasting a cleaner record.
Frank’s emphasis on smart challenges and efficient play could signal a more composed and structured Spurs side next season.
This appointment marks Tottenham’s fourth managerial change since June 2021 and comes at a crucial juncture.
