English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur has placed a 200 million pounds fee on striker and skipper Harry Kane as the club looks to ease at the economic impact of the COVID-19 on its finances.
Club chairman Daniel Levy is concerned about that the club’s finances in the future should the current English Premier League season is cancelled.
Top of the worries is the debt that the Spurs owe on the reconstruction of the White Hart Lane Stadium with a reported £637m in loan still to be paid as well as transfer fees in £83m.
Harry Kane could move to Manchester United, and his transfer fee would help the club with instant funds. Hence, Daniel Levy will approve the sale of the England forward to the Red Devils for £200million, a fee which will be a world record.
The chairman also hasn’t been impressed with the striker’s comment on the fate of the league with Kane preferring that the season be cancelled if it is not resumed early enough by June.
Kane himself wants to leave the club should trophies not be won anytime soon and agreed that the departure could happen this summer.
Harry Kane has been injured since the start of the year due to a hamstring injury, while uncertainty remains about when the league will be resumed.
Tottenham had taken a £1billion loan to build their new stadium, and the team has also spent over £100Million on new players in recent months signing the likes of Tanguy Ndombele, Steven Bergwijn, and Ryan Sessegnon.
Former Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov who also moved to Old Trafford in 2008, has likened the current scenario with Kane to his own when he moved to Manchester United.
‘I see a lot of similarities in the situation I went through and what is happening with Kane at the minute.’ Berbatov was quoted on Daily Mail.
