Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor have announced that they have begun negotiations to sign Egypt forward Mohamed Salah following his departure from Liverpool at the end of last season.

In an official statement, the club confirmed that the 34-year-old is expected to arrive in Istanbul on Wednesday as discussions over a potential move continue. Trabzonspor also revealed that the player is scheduled to travel onward to Trabzon later that evening, with further details about his arrival and welcome set to be shared through the club’s official communication channels.

“The player is planned to reach Trabzon in the evening of the same day,” the club said, adding that the timing and arrangements for Salah’s reception would be announced during the day.

If the transfer is completed, Salah would join Trabzonspor as a free agent after bringing an end to a remarkable nine-year spell with Liverpool. Since arriving from Roma in June 2017, the Egyptian forward established himself as one of the club’s greatest modern players, helping the Reds secure a host of major honours.

During his time at Anfield, Salah won two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, the FA Cup, two EFL Cups and the Community Shield. 

Individually, he also enjoyed outstanding success, claiming the Premier League Golden Boot four times and being named the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year in 2018, 2022 and 2025.

Salah leaves Liverpool with an impressive record of 257 goals and 120 assists in 442 appearances, making him one of the most influential players in the club’s recent history.

On the international stage, Salah recently featured for Egypt at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the team reached the round of 16 before suffering a 3-2 defeat to eventual finalists Argentina.

Trabzonspor, known by the nickname “Black Sea Storm,” are among the most successful clubs in Turkish football. The club has won seven league titles, with six of those championships coming between 1976 and 1984. 

Their most recent Turkish Super Lig triumph came in 2022, ending a 38-year wait for the title. Based in the north-eastern city of Trabzon, they remain one of only six clubs to have won the Turkish top-flight championship.

Salah’s expected arrival marks the next step in negotiations as Trabzonspor attempt to complete one of the biggest signings in the club’s history.
