UEFA CL: Bayern Munich Thrash Chelsea in London

Chelsea on Tuesday night suffered one of their heaviest defeats at the Stamford Bridge as they were pummeled by German Champions, Bayern Munich 3-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 clashes.

Frank Lampard’s side was drawn with Bayern after finishing second in their group behind Valencia while Bayern Munich were emphatic in their group beating all comers in six games gathering Sixteen points.

The game between the 2012 Champions and 2013 Champions of the Competition started with the Blues managing to keep the rampant Germans who scored 24 group stage goals at bay for the first 45 minutes.

However, things went down south immediately after the restart for Frank Lampard’s side as former Arsenal player, and Serge Gnabry scored just six minutes into the second half.

Gnabry added a second three minutes later as he completed his brace as Robert Lewandowski completed a brace of assists as well.

The Polish striker also had the opportunity to add to his tally as he scored his eleventh goal of the season in the UEFA Champions League, one above Dortmund’s Erling Braut Haaland, who has ten.

Alphonso Davies assisted Robert Lewandowski’s 76th-minute strike as Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League dreams flew into thin air.

Marcus Alonso worsened Frank Lampard’s worries with his 83rd-minute red card, leaving the Londoners with a mountain to climb in Munich, Germany, on the 18th of March for the second leg of the tie.

In Tuesday’s other game, Ten-Man Barcelona was able to hold Napoli in Italy. Dries Mertens had given the Italians a 30th-minute lead, but Antoine Griezmann equalised just three minutes before the hour mark for the Spanish Champions.

However, there was drama as Arturo Vidal was shown double yellow cards, both in the 89th minute, to reduce Barca to ten men and mean that he will miss the second leg.
