“We are going to do everything to stop that,” says Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder regarding Antony joining Manchester United

It has been a topsy turvy transfer window for both Manchester United and Ajax Amsterdam. While Manchester United have seen the winds of change at Old Trafford, Ajax has seen several players from their starting eleven move out along with their manager, Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman has joined Manchester United and is currently looking to lure away Brazilian winger Antony from Amsterdam as they need some bite in attack and the Brazilian having worked with Ten Hag can act as a the perfect outlet to improve their attacking options, along with adding depth to his roster.

However, Ajax are not too keen to let Antony leave the club to get reunited with his former coach. They have had plenty of departures in this transfer window and this one last blow will be too much of a blow for the Dutch outfit. Antony has been linked with Manchester United all summer but the club has slapped a €100 million price tag for the talented winger whom they simply cannot afford to lose this summer.

According to latest report on The Metro, Manchester United have made a bid in excess of €90 million and have also reached personal terms with the player as he cherishes to play under his former coach Ten Hag.

Despite United’s interest Ajax head coach Alfred Schreuder feels Antony will continue to feature for the Dutch outfit. He said it at the UEFA Champions League draw event where Ajax were drawn alongside Liverpool, Napoli and Rangers. He shared how the Brazilian is in revolt against the club for not allowing him to leave and is not training currently. However Schreuder believes that since Antony has a contract with the club he will stay in the Eredivisie since it is not feasible for the club to lose more players.

“I continue to assume that Antony will continue to play at Ajax. I understand what he wants but he has a contract with Ajax and I think we are a nice club, too. The finances are not up to me. We have sold a lot of players and a lot of players have come to Ajax with a certain ambition. I think you take that, too. That is my feeling and I dare to express it.”

Schreuder understands that Antony wants to get united with his former boss but sometimes football does not work that way. Therefore Ajax will do everything they can do keep him here as they simply cannot afford to lose such an important player at such an important juncture in the transfer window.

“We know a little bit about how football works, don’t we? The boy really wants to go, but then it doesn’t necessarily mean it will happen. We’re going to do everything we can to stop that,” Schreuder shared.
