A report from a newspaper in Italy is suggesting that Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti could hand in his resignation if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
This is according to a remarkable report in La Stampa newspaper.
The former Roma and Inter coach joined Juventus on October 30, 2025, and signed a new deal to June 2028 just a few weeks ago.
However, there seems to be tension between Spalletti and director Damien Comolli, with club patron and heir to the Agnelli family, John Elkann, forced to choose between them going forward.
Juve would have secured the last Champions League spot but suffered a 2-0 defeat against Fiorentina. The result left them joint fifth with Como.
This is an opportunity for Cesc Fabregas’ men to cap off a memorable season by qualifying for a European competition for the first time in their history.
Como would be content with a place in the Europa League football next season as they began building for the future after consecutive promotions from the third division to Serie A.
Serie A will be going into the final weekend of the season. To qualify for the European club money-spinner, Juventus need to win the derby against Torino, and hope that at least one of Roma and Milan slips up for them to get back into the Champions League.
La Stampa says Spalletti is prepared to hand in his resignation and walk away if he fails to guarantee their main objective for the campaign.
Juventus management could also reject his offer of resignation and convince him to stay with renewed powers to decide his squad.
With this development, it could go either way, as both parties could reach a mutual agreement and make a fresh start ahead of the new season, as there are several vacancies for Spalletti to choose from, while Juventus might also look at the profiles of coaches out of a job before making their decision.
