Keegan Bradley has announced the six captain’s picks for the 2025 US. Ryder Cup team, opting not to pick himself. This is the first time since Arnold Palmer in 1963 that the U S. captain will forgo self-selection.
Despite being ranked 11th in both points and world rankings, Bradley decided to focus solely on his captain duties rather than playing at the event, a choice he described as “the most difficult of my life.”
Bradley chose Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Cam Young, Patrick Cantlay, and Sam Burns to complete the US. team.
Thomas, Morikawa, Cantlay, and Burns have Ryder Cup experience, while Griffin and Young are rookies making their debut appearances.
The six automatic qualifiers who secured their spots through a two-year points race ending on August 17 are Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English, and Bryson DeChambeau.
Bradley’s decision not to play came after considerable thought and acknowledges that the team is strong with a good balance of veterans and new blood.
Notable omissions who did not make either the automatic or captain’s picks included players like Brian Harman, who won the 2023 Open Championship but had an inconsistent 2025 season, and promising players like Maverick McNealy and Novak.
The overall roster combines eight major champions and proven competitors with newcomers who provide fresh energy and talent, aiming to secure the US team’s third consecutive home victory.
The 39-year-old took over as captain in July 2024 following the US loss to Europe in 2023 in Rome. His appointment was a surprise after Tiger Woods declined the role.
Bradley has since led the team with the goal of reclaiming the Ryder Cup, which the US last won in 2021 with a record 19-9 victory.
Playing at Bethpage Black offers the home advantage, where American teams have historically won about 70% of the matches since 1979.
