LIV Golf has postponed its planned June event in New Orleans, casting fresh doubt over the league’s short-term stability, especially as questions grow around funding and long-term direction. 

The tournament, originally scheduled for June 25–28 at Bayou Oaks in City Park, will no longer take place, with organizers now exploring a potential return later in the year.

The delay comes at an awkward moment for the league. Scott O’Neil had recently assured players and staff that the 2026 season would continue without disruption, but that message has quickly unraveled. 

Reports indicate that the Public Investment Fund, which has bankrolled LIV Golf since its launch, is scaling back its financial commitment, forcing the league to reassess upcoming events.

There were also practical considerations behind the decision. Organizers pointed to extreme summer conditions in New Orleans, readiness of the course, and the crowded global sports calendar. 

The overlap with the FIFA World Cup, taking place across North America, added another layer of risk in terms of attention and audience share.

The shift leaves a noticeable gap in LIV’s U.S. schedule, stretching from its May stop in Virginia to its next confirmed event in August in New Jersey. 

This breaks things up for both players and fans, while adding to doubts around the league’s operational planning.

More broadly, the postponement is a sign of deeper issues. LIV Golf has spent heavily to establish itself as an alternative to the PGA Tour, but consistent traction has been difficult to secure. 

Questions around revenue generation, sponsorship, and audience growth have lingered, and any pullback in core funding only intensifies that pressure.

There are also signs of internal strain. Reports of delayed payments and concerns among players have started to surface, which is a sign that confidence within the roster may be wavering. 

For a league built on attracting top talent with lucrative deals, maintaining trust is critical.

A rescheduled event later in the year, possibly with a reduced format, would give LIV time to stabilize its finances and adjust its model. Whether that proves enough remains unclear. 

For now, the New Orleans postponement comes at a very critical time, and it raises doubts about how secure the league’s foundation really is as it tries to carve out a lasting place in professional golf.
