India completed a clean sweep against the West Indies with a stunning 2-0 series win on Tuesday.
The final match took place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, where India comfortably chased down a target of 121 runs to clinch victory by seven wickets.
The second Test saw India begin the final day requiring 58 runs with nine wickets in hand after reaching 63 for 1 on day four.
Opener KL Rahul played a huge role by remaining unbeaten on 58, guiding India to the target. Rahul built a partnership of 79 runs for the second wicket with Sai Sudharsan, who contributed 39 runs.
Although the West Indies struck back briefly with two quick wickets taken by off-spinner Roston Chase, the target was too small to defend. Dhruv Jurel also stayed not out on 6 runs to help India cross the finish line without further hiccups.
India’s strong first innings set the tone for the series. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a dazzling 175 runs, and captain Shubman Gill remained unbeaten on 129, leading India to a declared total of 518 for 5.
The West Indies managed 248 runs in their first innings but fought hard in the second innings with valuable centuries from John Campbell and Shai Hope.
Campbell and Hope provided stability as the tourists reached 271 for 3, but wickets fell rapidly after Mohammed Siraj dismissed Hope, triggering a collapse that left the West Indies struggling.
This clean sweep marks Shubman Gill’s first series win as Test captain. India’s triumph in this series matched a world record with ten consecutive Test series wins against the West Indies, a streak unbroken since 2002.
This victory places India third in the World Test Championship standings, following Australia and Sri Lanka.
The win is a sign of India’s edge on home turf following the earlier disappointment of missing the World Test Championship final earlier in the year.
The team featured a mix of experienced players like KL Rahul and emerging talents such as Sai Sudharsan. With the Test series behind them, India shifts attention to the upcoming white-ball series in Australia, while the West Indies prepare for a tour of New Zealand later this year.
