Carlos Alcaraz has pulled out of Wimbledon 2026 after confirming that the wrist injury which forced him out of the French Open has still not healed enough for competition.
The Spaniard announced on Tuesday that he is withdrawing from both Queen’s Club and Wimbledon as he continues recovery from right wrist tenosynovitis, an inflammation around the tendon sheath that first appeared during the Barcelona Open in April.
He wrote on Instagram: “My recovery is going well and I’m feeling much better, but unfortunately, I’m still not ready to compete, which is why I have to withdraw from the grass-court swing at Queen’s and Wimbledon.
They are two truly special tournaments for me, and I will miss them a lot. We’ll keep working to come back as soon as possible!”
The decision ends Alcaraz’s attempt to make history at the All England Club. After winning Wimbledon in 2023 and 2024 and reaching the final again in 2025, the 22-year-old had the chance to become the first man in the Open Era to win four straight titles at SW19.
Instead, his streak of three consecutive Wimbledon finals will stop there, with no clear return date yet in place.
Alcaraz has not played since April 14, when discomfort in the wrist began affecting him during his second-round match in Barcelona.
The injury later ruled him out of Roland Garros, and now Wimbledon follows, making this the first time since 2019 that he will miss back-to-back Grand Slam tournaments.
The absence changes the outlook of the men’s draw immediately. Alcaraz had become one of the strongest grass-court players on tour over the last three seasons.
His withdrawal removes one of the biggest threats in the field and leaves the race for the title more open heading into London.
The timing is also frustrating, given how well his career had been progressing before the injury.
Alcaraz already owns seven Grand Slam singles titles at just 22 and has built momentum on grass with deep runs every summer since 2023.
Wimbledon loses one of its biggest attractions and one of the few players capable of carrying the tournament into a new era after the dominance of Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal.
