Alexander Zverev hopes to improve in the second week of Wimbledon

Alexander Zverev has had a great start to his Wimbledon campaign as he recently defeated Tennys Sandgren of the United States in the second round. The German played with great aggression and imposed himself right from the start of the match. He was  He even showcased some strong net skills as Zverev is looking to improve with every passing match.

Despite being content with the level of his play in the first two rounds, the youngster is looking to improve as the competition will only get tougher from here on. “I think it is not common to have games like this, but I feel pretty good,” Zverev said after defeated Sandgren. “Of course, I know that the rivals are going to become more difficult as the tournament goes on, and that is why I need to play better, and I hope to continue increasing my level.”

The World No. 6 expressed the difficulty of going up against someone like Novak Djokovic or Rafael Nadal. These players demand a high level of intensity from their opponents or else they will simply crush them into pieces.

“It’s a natural situation where I know my opponents are going to improve as well,” the German added. “If you play against Novak (Djokovic) or against (Rafael) Nadal, and you raise the level, they will also raise it to make it a more competitive duel.”

The youngster has faced several adversities in his short professional career. Hence he knows that as the tournament progresses there will be opponents who will try to rattle him and pull him out of his comfort zone. That is something he is already wary of and is looking to play his best tennis when it matters the most.

“The best players always raise their levels in the second week, and hopefully I can be one of them,” Zverev said. “For a second round, I played more than decent tennis, but other tennis players will not let me play this way and will try to cut me off and make me feel uncomfortable. That is when I will have to step forward.”

The 24-year-old will be taking on another American youngster in Taylor Fritz for the third round of the Wimbledon. While Zverev will start as a favourite in this clash, Fritz has the potential to come up with a surprise.
