Roger Federer has been elected to the International Tennis Hall of Fame. His induction, part of the Class of 2026, marks a crowning achievement following a legendary career that spanned nearly 25 years.
The official ceremony will take place in Newport, Rhode Island, from August 27 to 29, 2026.
Federer dominated tennis for over two decades, winning 20 Grand Slam singles titles, the first man to reach this milestone.
He earned 103 ATP singles titles during his career, second only to Jimmy Connors for the Open Era, and won 28 ATP Masters 1000 tournaments.
He first captured a major championship at Wimbledon in 2003, at age 21, and went on to claim eight titles there. His Grand Slam collection also includes six Australian Opens, five US Opens, and one French Open, completing a career Grand Slam in 2009.
During his active years, the Swiss has had an unwavering presence at the top of the sport. He spent a record 237 consecutive weeks as world No. 1 and finished five seasons ranked No. 1 overall.
Nothing shows how consistent he was like reaching 18 of 19 major finals between 2005 and 2010, a feat that is beyond the ordinary. Federer led Switzerland to a Davis Cup victory in 2014 and won an Olympic gold medal in doubles with Stan Wawrinka in 2008.
Renowned for a fluid and elegant playing style, Federer built his game on deft footwork, a strong forehand, and an effective serve, which allowed him to excel on all surfaces.
Beyond his records, Federer helped expand tennis’s global appeal and inspired many with his sportsmanship, professionalism, and humility.
He won the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award 13 times and was recognised as the ATP Fans’ Favourite for 19 consecutive years.
Federer’s election celebrates his career beyond match wins, as it also acknowledges the influence he had on the global tennis community and his role as an ambassador for the sport. It also serves as payback for how much he has given, and continues to give, to the sport.
