Fernando Gonzalez feels Novak Djokovic will finish with the most Grand Slam titles of the ‘Big Three’

Former Chilean tennis player Fernando Gonzalez believes that Serbian superstar Novak Djokovic will end up with the most number of Grand Slams. The Serb is already at par in terms of Majors with his biggest competitors Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. So it is not strange to feel that Djokovic will end up with the most number of Grand Slams than the other two of the ‘Big Three’.

However, Gonzalez feels winning most Grand Slams is not enough to be called the greatest of all time, at least according to the former World Number 5. He feels that there are other factors to decide the greatest of all time debate in tennis among these three superstars.

Federer and Nadal have struggled with fitness in recent times and with age, they have not looked like winning another Grand Slam. Federer won his last Grand Slam title back in the 2018 Australian Open, while Nadal won his most recent Major at the 2020 French Open. The Spaniard who is now nursing a foot injury still have some chances to win Grand Slam especially at the Roland Garros, which has been his strength throughout his career.

Gonzalez before retiring in 2012 has faced all three superstars. Hence in his interview with Tennis 365, he shared how great it is to have all three stars to have won 20 major titles.

“A few years ago, the idea that anyone could win 10 Grand Slams was incredible, but now we have three guys with 20 and it is just amazing,” Gonzalez said.

The former Olympic Gold medallist feels that Djokovic will keep on breaking several records and will finish his career as the best ever in terms of statistics. But the Chilean asserted that he does not feel statistics make him the greatest of all time.

“In terms of the numbers, I’m sure Novak is going to end up with the most Grand Slams and maybe the best statistics, but for me there are other factors when you decide who is the greatest,” Gonzalez continued. “Novak is breaking all the records and it looks like he will continue to do that for a number of years,” concluded the 41-year-old.
