Reigning US Open champion Emma Raducanu eager to feature in next season’s Australian Open

US Open champion Emma Raducanu has expressed her desire to feature in the next year’s Australian Open. The 18-year-old sensation and said that she would do whatever it takes to feature in Melbourne next year as he wants to play against the best players.

This comment from the British tennis player only came after recent reports suggest that the players taking part in the Australian Open should go through strict quarantine restrictions. Raducanu however is up for the challenge as he is keen to feature in the Grand Slam Down Under.

Raducanu has already confirmed her participation as she looks forward to facing top professionals in Australia. “Whatever needs to be done, to be able to play the Australian Open, I’ll do,” Raducanu said. “To me, it is not even a thought or a battle in mind – I just want to be at the Australian Open and I want to compete there.”

However, the British tennis star did not buy the idea of the interviewer calling her the favourite to win the next season’s Australia Open. Raducanu asserted how she is the new kid in the bloc and she is gradually learning new things.

The 18-year-old highlighted how the Australian Open will be a different experience for her. She is looking forward to the event as she wants to absorb as much knowledge as she can from some of the top players. Raducanu is not ready to rest her laurels after the US Open triumph as she wants to keep learning and growing.

“If I’m seeded, then I’m seeded, but favorite? You can’t really say I’m a favourite. I’m still so new to everything,” Raducanu said. “I just feel like I’m learning and absorbing all the knowledge that I’m gaining like a sponge, and soaking it all in.”

“That’s what I really want to do,” she added. “I’m not focused on results, I’m focused on how much I can learn because that’s what’s really going to drive me forward.”

Raducanu also spoke about how she would like to challenge the top professionals and see where she stands. She thinks that she has a lot to learn and these Grand Slam events allow a player to go up against great players leaving them with plenty of knowledge.

“I like to challenge myself and obviously it’s going to be extremely difficult to beat a top-10 player or a player of that quality,” Raducanu said. “But I’m up for it and, even if I lose, I think it’d be a great learning [opportunity] – just to compare where I’m at to where the best in the world are. So either way for me it would be a win-win, ” she concluded.
