Roland Garros: Nadal now on par with Roger Federer after winning his 20th Grand

 

Rafael Nadal has now equaled Rodger Federer’s 20th Grand Slam win after defeating Novak Djokovic 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 on Sunday to win the 2020 French Open.

This was his 13th French Grand Slam. There are also some notable stats from this recent defeat from the Spaniard.

The 20th is the most among men in the Open Era since 1968. Behind them is Djokovic on 17, Pete Sampras and Roy Emerson on 14 and 12, respectively.

Nadal is also the first player to win 13 titles at any one tour-level event since the Open Era start. He added earlier met the record of Martina Navratilova, who won 12 titles in Chicago between 1978 and 1992. The win takes him above Czech female player.

Interestingly, Nadal has also won 11 titles each at Monte Carlo and Barcelona, while Navratilova also won 11 at Eastbourne. Federer is next on the list, winning ten titles from his hometown tournament in Basel.

Nadal is also the only player to have won the same Grand Slam at least ten times in the Open Era. Navratilova is behind him with 9 Wimbledon titles. Following them is Federer with 8 Wimbledon as well. Also, Djokovic has 8 Australian Open titles to his credit.

Serena Williams is also among the big winners with 7 Australian Open and Wimbledon titles, while Chris Evert has 7 French Open titles. Steffi Graf and Sampras also won 7 Wimbledon titles each.

Margaret Court, an Australian legend, won seven of her 11 Australian Open titles before the Open Era began.

Coincidentally, Nadal’s 100th match win at Roland Garros, with only two losses in the tournament’s history so far.

He is still behind Federer, who has 102  wins at the Australian Open and 101 at Wimbledon.  The pair are now the only men to have recorded at least 100 wins in one Grand Slam since the Open Era began.
