Sinner regains world number one ranking with Paris Masters victory

Jannik Sinner clinched the Paris Masters title with a compelling victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime, marking one of the most memorable moments of the 2025 tennis season.

The match saw Sinner return to the world number one spot after beating his Canadian opponent 6-4, 7-6(7-4).

Sinner stayed focused and calculated throughout the game, adapting to the indoor hard court conditions at the Accor Arena. His groundstrokes were precise, and his movement was fluid, allowing him to stay in control and guide the game to his advantage.

Auger-Aliassime offered strong resistance, utilizing his athleticism and court coverage to extend rallies and create openings.

The first set unfolded with both players exchanging service holds until Sinner launched an important break. This moment shifted the pace of the match, as Sinner remained resolute and closed out the set confidently.

Auger-Aliassime responded in the second set by improving his return game, challenging Sinner’s service games with aggressive positioning and sharp angle shots.

Still, Sinner’s steady play and careful shot selection thwarted multiple break points, keeping the match balanced heading into the decisive stages.

As the final set progressed, Sinner’s status as one of the best players in the game became evident. He paid attention to wearing down Auger-Aliassime, with well-timed drop shots and net approaches.

The Italian sealed the match on his first match point with a clean two-handed backhand down the line, a shot that brought the crowd to their feet as he raised his arms skyward in celebration.

Sinner’s victory at the Paris Masters not only added a Masters 1000 trophy to his collection but also marked his return to the top of the ATP rankings. This accomplishment was a clear payoff for the intense season-long campaign where he faced stiff competition from rising stars and established veterans alike.

The triumph also continued his undefeated streak on indoor hard courts in 2025, extending it to 26 matches. It also adds to an already successful year for Sinner and serves as a confidence boost heading toward the season-ending ATP Finals in Turin, where he will defend his crown.
