Tokyo Olympics 2020: I am full of confidence and motivation, says World no.1 Novak Djokovic

It seems Novak Djokovic can do nothing wrong on the Tennis court. The world no.1 from Serbia, who only recently won his 6th Wimbledon title and took his Grand slam tally to 20, has managed to reach the third round of Olympics after defeating Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany in straight sets.

The 34 year old Serbian is becoming a more and more dominant force in the sport as he is simply too good for any opponent. Novak Djokovic cruised through Round 2 of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Tennis singles without much of a problem with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Jan-Lennard Struff.

Djokovic shared his pleasure after the match which he termed as his first serious hurdle.

“It was challenging but I’m pleased to overcome the first hurdle. I think I was solid on the court. I could always do better but for a first match I’m satisfied. It was the hottest day so far. Humidity is brutal. It’s certainly hot but also humid, the hard courts absorb the heat and it stays trapped in there. There was not much wind, not much breeze”, said the 2021 Roland Garros Champion.

The 34 year old Serbian is focussed as ever and would certainly leave no stone unturned in order to be on the podium, as well as winning the US Open later this year.

“The Olympics and the US Open are obviously my biggest objectives for the remainder of the season, and it’s going to be demanding. But I am full of confidence and motivated to represent Serbia in the best possible way. I am yearning for a medal in Tokyo, hopefully gold, and then I’ll go to New York aiming to complete it all”, further adds Novak.

The Wimbledon champion is now one step closer to a historic ‘Golden Slam’, i.e winning all major four grand slams as well as an Olympics gold medal in one year. The feat is so coveted that no gentleman has ever managed to do it. The only Tennis player who pulled off the almost impossible task was German legend Steffi Graff, who won all four slams as well as Olympics gold in 1988.
