This year’s US Open is set to be another memorable event, a fact already made obvious with a first look at the mixed doubles lineup for the event.
The list, which features some of the top-ranked players in the sport, is just brimming with star power and interesting partnerships, some of which might seem unusual.
Among the players on the list are Grand Slam champions and crowd favourites, including the much-talked-about pairing of Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz.
Jessica Pegula and Tommy Paul will both represent the USA. Pegula, who’s yet to win her first Grand Slam title, has a good history at doubles events, as she reached the quarter-final at the US Open in 2023.
Another high-profile couple is Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas. Their chemistry off the court has often made headlines, and now fans will see if that translates into success on the grass.
Similarly, the pairing of Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud brings together two of the most consistent performers on tour. Ruud is no stranger to doubles at the US Open, having gotten to the third round back in 2019.
The entry list also boasts several transatlantic and cross-continental duos. Naomi Osaka and Nick Kyrgios, two of the sport’s most outspoken personalities, are matched up for this one.
World number one, Aryna Sabalenka and Grigor Dimitrov form another eye-catching team, as well as the Italian duo of Jasmine Paolini and Lorenzo Musetti
Also on the list is Olga Danilovic paired with her fellow countryman, Novak Djokovic. Djokovic may have won four US Open titles, but his best outing in a doubles event was a first-round appearance back in 2006. This may be the year he gets to turn this around.
This is only the first list, as another is expected to be released soon with more names. The mixed doubles event will hold between August 19 and 20, before the main event begins on August 24.
