Milan Momcilovic, Iowa State’s standout scorer and one of the most lethal shooters in college basketball, has announced he will enter the transfer portal while also declaring for the NBA Draft, keeping his college eligibility intact.
The forward made the announcement through social media on Sunday, signaling a pivotal moment in his career after three impressive seasons with the Cyclones. Momcilovic leaves behind a remarkable record, having averaged 16.9 points per game this past season while shooting an exceptional 48.7% from beyond the arc. His tally of 136 three-pointers from 279 attempts led the nation, underlining his reputation as one of the most accurate long-range shooters in the game.
Reflecting on his journey, Momcilovic expressed gratitude toward the Iowa State community. “The last three years have been the best of my life, and you have been a major part of that,” he wrote, acknowledging the support of fans and the unforgettable atmosphere at Hilton Coliseum.
Over the course of his college career, Momcilovic started 101 of 102 games, averaging 13.2 points per game while maintaining a strong 42.8% shooting rate from three-point range. His consistency and durability made him a cornerstone of the Cyclones’ lineup.
Despite declaring for the NBA Draft, Momcilovic has left the door open for a return to college basketball, potentially with another program. Current NCAA rules allow underclassmen to explore professional opportunities while preserving eligibility, provided they meet specific requirements. These include hiring an NCAA-certified agent, receiving feedback from the NBA’s undergraduate advisory committee, and withdrawing from the draft before the late-May deadline.
Iowa State head coach TJ Otzelberger voiced his support for the decision, highlighting the importance of prioritising the player’s future. “Milan and I have had meaningful discussions about his future over the last couple of weeks,” Otzelberger shared. “He needs to focus on what is best for him and his family.”
He also praised Momcilovic’s contributions to the program, thanking him for his impact and expressing confidence in his pursuit of an NBA career.
As the draft process unfolds, Momcilovic’s shooting ability and proven track record are expected to draw significant attention from scouts. Whether he ultimately makes the leap to the professional ranks or returns to college for another season, his next move will be closely watched across the basketball world.
