Knicks Set Merchandise Sales Record Following Historic NBA Championship Triumph

The New York Knicks’ long-awaited NBA championship has not only delivered success on the court but has also sparked an unprecedented surge in merchandise sales, setting a new record in the sports retail industry.

Just hours after defeating the San Antonio Spurs in five games to capture the NBA Finals title on Saturday night, the Knicks generated more merchandise sales in the first 24 hours than any other championship-winning team had achieved over the same period, according to Fanatics.

The achievement surpassed the previous record held by the Philadelphia Eagles, whose merchandise sales soared after their 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on February 9, 2025.

Fanatics reported that demand for Knicks championship gear reached extraordinary levels as fans celebrated the franchise’s first title in more than five decades. The company revealed that it processed more than 8,000 orders per minute in the immediate aftermath of the victory, establishing another record for the sports merchandise retailer.

The championship sparked an emotional response from supporters who had waited 53 years to see the Knicks return to the top of professional basketball. Fans rushed to purchase commemorative items, including championship T-shirts and hats, many priced at more than USD 40, as they looked to mark the historic occasion.

The scale of the demand also highlighted the strength of the Knicks’ fan base. According to Fanatics, the franchise generated double the sales recorded by the previous top-selling NBA champion, the Los Angeles Lakers, following their most recent title win in 2020.

While exact figures were not disclosed, Fanatics confirmed that the Knicks’ post-championship sales outperformed every other league champion during the first day after securing a title. The company did not reveal the total number of items sold or the overall value of the orders received.

Despite the record-breaking start, the Knicks may still have another milestone within reach. Fanatics noted that the overall championship merchandise sales record remains with the 2016 Chicago Cubs. However, given the extraordinary pace of purchases following New York’s victory, there is growing belief that the Knicks could eventually surpass that benchmark as celebrations continue.

For a franchise that endured more than half a century without a championship, the response from supporters has demonstrated that the Knicks’ title triumph is resonating far beyond the basketball court. The team’s victory has become both a sporting and commercial success, with fans eager to own a piece of history.
