At just 30 years old, Nikola Jokic is already rewriting the NBA history books, and now, he may be on the verge of claiming one of the league’s most iconic records.
The Denver Nuggets’ superstar is within striking distance of overtaking Russell Westbrook for the most career triple-doubles in NBA history. Westbrook currently holds the all-time record with 203 triple-doubles, a mark he set during the 2020-21 season after surpassing Oscar Robertson’s legendary 181. Since then, Westbrook has added just nine more, bringing him to 203 as he enters the twilight of his career.
Jokic, meanwhile, sits at 164 career triple-doubles—just 39 short of the record. While that number might appear steep, the Serbian center’s recent production makes the chase realistic, if not imminent.
Coming off a remarkable 2024-25 campaign, Jokic averaged a triple-double across 70 games, finishing the season with 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 10.2 assists per game. He posted 34 triple-doubles, leading the league and setting a new personal best. That output means Jokic logged a triple-double in nearly half the games he played—an astounding 48.57% of his appearances.
If Jokic maintains a similar rate in the 2025-26 season and appears in all 82 games—a lofty but not impossible goal—he could record approximately 39 or 40 triple-doubles, enough to either tie or surpass Westbrook’s current total. Even with some missed games or a slight dip in efficiency, the chase remains plausible, especially given Jokic’s unmatched consistency and unique playmaking from the center position.
The record, however, may not be top-of-mind for Jokic himself. Known for prioritizing team success over individual accolades, the two-time MVP and NBA champion has never publicly campaigned for personal milestones. Still, his style of play naturally lends itself to stat-sheet-stuffing performances, making the record more a byproduct of his dominance than a deliberate pursuit.
While Westbrook is still an active player, his chances of significantly extending the record appear slim. With only nine triple-doubles over the last three seasons, and limited minutes in a reduced role, his tally may soon become Jokic’s to pass.
Whether or not the Serbian sensation breaks the record this season, one thing is certain: Nikola Jokic is redefining what’s possible for a big man in the modern NBA—and the triple-double crown might just be his next milestone.
