Timberwolves Dealt Blow as Anthony Edwards Sidelined During Playoff Push

The Minnesota Timberwolves’ push for a strong playoff position in the Western Conference has taken a significant hit, with All-Star guard Anthony Edwards set to miss multiple games due to a knee injury.

The franchise confirmed that Edwards is dealing with inflammation in his right knee and will be re-evaluated in one to two weeks following an MRI scan. The timeline means the 22-year-old will miss at least four games, with the possibility of being sidelined for up to seven contests during a crucial stretch of the season.

This latest setback adds to an already interrupted campaign for Edwards. Despite being one of the league’s most durable players in recent years — playing 79 games in each of the last three seasons — he has struggled with injuries this time around. He had earlier missed four games due to a right hamstring strain and sat out additional fixtures across three separate spells because of a lingering foot issue.

Even with these disruptions, Edwards has been enjoying the most productive season of his career. The sixth-year guard is averaging a personal-best 29.5 points per game, underlining his importance as the focal point of Minnesota’s offense.

His absence comes at a critical juncture for the Timberwolves. Entering Tuesday’s matchup against the Phoenix Suns, Minnesota was locked in a tight race in the Western Conference standings, tied for fifth place with the Denver Nuggets. The team holds a narrow two-game cushion over the Suns in the battle to avoid the Play-In Tournament, making every game down the stretch increasingly important.

With a packed schedule ahead — including four games in six days — the Timberwolves will need other players to step up in Edwards’ absence to maintain their position. His scoring ability, leadership, and consistency have been central to the team’s competitiveness this season, and replacing that output will be no easy task.

The coming weeks could prove decisive for Minnesota’s postseason ambitions. A prolonged absence for Edwards risks disrupting momentum at a time when the margins between teams are razor-thin.

For now, the Timberwolves will be hoping for a swift recovery for their star guard, knowing that his return could be the difference between a favorable playoff seeding and a more uncertain path through the Play-In Tournament.
