Pacquiao nominated for boxing hall of fame induction

Legendary Filipino boxer, Manny Pacquiao has been nominated for induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame for 2025. This recognition celebrates his illustrious career, spanning almost three decades, during which he became the first boxer in history to win world titles in eight different weight classes.

Born on December 17, 1978, in Kibawe, Bukidnon, Philippines, Pacquiao made his professional debut at age 16 on January 22, 1995. Over a career of more than 26 years, he compiled an impressive record of 62 wins, 8 losses, and 2 draws, with 39 of those victories coming by knockout. Notably, he has held titles in multiple divisions, including flyweight, featherweight, welterweight, and super welterweight.

Pacquiao’s last fight occurred on August 21, 2021, where he lost to Yordenis Ugás by unanimous decision while contesting the WBA (Super) welterweight title. His career has been marked by significant achievements, including being named Fighter of the Decade for the 2000s by the Boxing Writers Association of America.

Throughout his career, Pacquiao faced numerous top-tier opponents and is known for his explosive fighting style and relentless determination. His rivalry with Floyd Mayweather Jr., culminating in their highly publicized bout in May 2015—which Mayweather won by unanimous decision—was regarded as the boxing match of the century due to the status of both men.

The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place from June 5-8, 2025, in Canastota, New York. Pacquiao’s legacy as a fighter is complemented by his philanthropic efforts and political career in the Philippines.

Another name nominated alongside Pacquiao is Mikey Garcia, another renowned boxer with a glowing record behind him. The former champion won 40 fights out of a total of 42 and went on to become champion in four divisions, including featherweight and lightweight.

He turned pro at the age of 19 and won every fight until he faced Errol Spence Jr. in 2019 when he was fighting for the welterweight title, which would have made him a five division champion.

Other names on the list include Shawn Porter, Lucian Bute, Yessica Chávez from Mexico, Jessica Rakoczy, and Owen Swift.
