Ancelotti believes Real Madrid deserved to win Madrid derby

 

The manager of Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti, has stated that his team deserved the win in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against city rivals Atletico Madrid.

Real Madrid led in the game early on through Brahim Diaz, but Diego Simeone’s side scored a late equalizer through Marcos Llorente. The result means that it’s the first time since the 2015-16 season that Atletico Madrid will claim four points against Real Madrid in a La Liga season.

However, Carlo Ancelotti believes that his team played a good game but were unlucky to have conceded a late goal.

“It was a very good game from our point of view. We played well and controlled the game well, but we were unlucky to concede in the last minute. We were lacking in height and we had to dig deep. We deserved the win, but there have been many games that we have won in the last few minutes. There’s nothing to criticise ourselves for. We’re at the top of the table, and we have the chance to make an impact next Saturday. I’d like to praise everyone’s commitment, no matter how many minutes they play. Everyone is ready, prepared and plays their part. The level of commitment from the team is great, and when you have a team with quality and commitment, it’s easier to be successful”. Ancelloti said.

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid met twice before Sunday’s fixture, which was the third meeting of the rivals in 2024. Real won 5-3 in extra time in the Spanish Super Cup, and Atletico triumphed 4-2 after extra time in the Copa del Rey.

Los Blancos will face fellow title challengers and second-placed Girona on Saturday, February 10. Girona are two points behind Real Madrid on the La Liga table. Real Madrid will face RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League three days after their La Liga fixture.
