Arsenal defeats Manchester United to maintain Premier League lead

Premier League leaders Arsenal emerged 3-2 winners in a highly competitive five-goal thriller when Manchester United traveled to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The Red Devils are the only side to have beaten the Premier League leaders this season, and they were also on an 11-game unbeaten run and were hoping to do the double against the North London side in a bid to catch up with the top two teams in the league.

Manchester United got into the lead through in-form Marcus Rashford, who got his ninth goal in eight games with a long-range effort in the first half. Eddie Nketiah scored seven minutes later in the first half to equalize.

Bukayo Saka gave Arsenal the lead in the 53rd minute of the game, but Lisandro Martinez pulled both teams level six minutes later.

However, Eddie Nketiah got his second goal of the game just before regulation time to snatch the win for Mikel Arteta’s men.

Arsenal are now five points clear of nearest rival Manchester City, and already Bukayo Saka is proud of Arsenal’s best-ever start to a Premier League season but believes that the team needs to do more as their only halfway to the title race.

“That’s really significant. It’s something we can be proud of, but we have to stay humble. It’s only halfway through the season, and things can change very quickly. But if we keep playing like we have, then we’ll be in a good place at the end of the season; we just have to keep it up.” Bukayo Saka said.

Elsewhere, Manchester City got a 3-0 win against Wolves courtesy of a hat-trick from Erling Haaland, who has now scored 25 goals in 19 appearances in the Premier League. Sunday’s other game between Leeds United and Brentford at Elland road ended in a goalless draw.
