Chelsea and Arsenal played out a tense 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge, with the Premier League leaders unable to take full advantage of facing 10 men for more than 50 minutes. 

The match was heated from the start and ended with both sides feeling they had earned their point.

The turning point of the first half came in the 38th minute, when Moises Caicedo was sent off after a VAR review for a high and dangerous challenge on Mikel Merino. 

The dismissal left Chelsea with a major task ahead, but Enzo Maresca’s side responded impressively after the break.

Just three minutes into the second half, Chelsea stunned Arsenal when Trevoh Chalobah rose to head in Reece James’ cross, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead. 

Stamford Bridge erupted as the 10-man Blues showed resilience and composure despite the numerical disadvantage.

Arsenal eventually found their rhythm and equalised in the 59th minute through Merino, who headed in Bukayo Saka’s delivery. 

The goal brought the visitors level, but despite dominating possession, Mikel Arteta’s team struggled to carve out clear chances. By full time, Arsenal had managed only six shots across the entire match.

The closing stages were frantic, with big moments at both ends. Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez produced a crucial late save to deny Merino before being clattered by Viktor Gyökeres, earning the Arsenal forward a yellow card. 

At the other end, Pedro Neto wasted a promising break, shooting over when teammates expected a pass.

Four minutes of added time produced one final opening, as Jurrien Timber headed wide from a Piero Hincapié cross with Gyökeres lurking behind him. 

The draw leaves Arsenal five points clear at the top of the Premier League, while Chelsea earn credit for a gritty display that kept the leaders from pulling further ahead.

Arsenal hosts Brentford next on Wednesday, while Chelsea travels to Leeds United.
