Arteta unimpressed despite Arsenal’s victory in London derby

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has voiced his disappointment in the display of the Gunners in their 2-1 win against West Ham United on Sunday in the Premier League.

The Gunners, who are running for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season, dropped to 5th before the game after Tottenham defeated Leicester City 3-1 earlier.

However, the Gunners returned to their fourth position with a two-point lead ahead of their fellow North London rivals, Tottenham, after securing a 2-1 victory over the Hammers at the London Stadium.

Mikel Arteta’s side took the lead in the first half through Rob Holding in the 38th minute, but the hosts equalized through Jared Bowen on the stroke of halftime.

Arsenal got back in the lead through Gabriel nine minutes after the restart. Neither side could add to the tally as Arsenal their third consecutive game after victories against Manchester United and Chelsea.

Despite this result that places them in fourth with 63 points, one more than Spurs, Arteta believed his team didn’t do well enough, saying that they won ugly.

“We didn’t play so well. If I had to use a word, it would be we won ugly. Big teams have to find a way to win ugly when they don’t play well. We found a way through set pieces and defending strongly. To win here at West Ham is credit to boys and shows the spirit we have.” Arteta said.

Arsenal has four more games before the end of the season, but they face Leeds United next before an all-important clash with Tottenham Hotspur in a fixture that will determine the last top-four place.

Meanwhile, Tottenham defeated Leicester City 3-1 on Sunday, with Harry Kane and a Son Heung Min’s hat-trick securing the three points. Kelechi Iheanacho got the only goal for Leicester late in the game.

Chelsea lost 1-0 to Everton at Merseyside in a victory that is crucial in the survival battle for the Toffees.
