Atletico Madrid has identified Alex Iwobi as a potential target for the summer transfer window, according to reports.
The Spanish club is said to be interested in signing the Fulham forward as manager Diego Simeone looks to strengthen his squad. Atletico has reportedly made a €25 million (£21m/$29m) offer for Iwobi, who has three years left on his current deal.
Iwobi enjoyed a strong season under Marco Silva at Fulham, scoring nine goals and registering six assists in the Premier League.
The versatile forward has 80 caps for Nigeria and has made a total of 77 appearances for Fulham. Iwobi’s experience and adaptability make him an attractive prospect for Atletico Madrid.
The reported offer includes a four-year contract with an annual salary of €7m (£6m/$8m), which works out to around £115,000 per week.
This would be a significant increase for Iwobi, who has previously played for Arsenal and made 149 appearances for the club.
Atletico Madrid’s interest in Iwobi comes as the club is also linked with Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero. It remains to be seen whether Iwobi will be a priority target for the Spanish side.
If Atletico does pursue Iwobi, it will be interesting to see how Fulham responds to the potential loss of one of their key players.
Iwobi’s ability to play on both wings and centrally makes him a valuable asset for any team. His experience and skills would be a welcome addition to Atletico Madrid’s squad. However, the club will need to negotiate with Fulham to secure his signature.
The transfer window is heating up, and Atletico Madrid’s interest in Iwobi is just one of many potential deals being discussed.
As the summer transfer window progresses, we can expect to see more news and updates on potential transfers, including Iwobi’s future.
Atletico Madrid were disappointingly knocked out in the group stage of the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup in the USA.
