Barcelona shifts focus to alternative targets following uncertainty from interests

Barcelona is actively exploring new options in the transfer market as their pursuit of Luis Díaz and Marcus Rashford faces significant complications.

With Athletic Club’s Nico Williams no longer an option and Liverpool’s high asking price of €80–85 million for Díaz proving too steep, the Catalan club is adjusting its strategy. 

Manchester United’s Rashford remains on the list, but internal concerns and financial prudence are casting doubt over that deal as well.

Rafael Leão of AC Milan has also emerged as a serious candidate, especially given his relationship with super-agent Jorge Mendes, a close ally of Barcelona president Joan Laporta. 

The Portuguese winger is admired for his flair and physicality, but his price tag, estimated at £64.4 million, poses a significant challenge for Barcelona’s tight budget. While Laporta is keen, the financial structure of any deal would require careful navigation.

Another name gaining traction is Antonio Nusa, the promising winger currently at RB Leipzig. At just 19, Nusa is considered a high-upside, lower-cost investment compared to other big-name targets.

His performances have already attracted interest from Borussia Dortmund and Napoli, adding competitive pressure to any potential deal. 

Nonetheless, Barcelona sees Nusa as a feasible and strategic option in their current financial climate. Christopher Nkunku is also on Barcelona’s radar, with the club making initial enquiries about the Chelsea forward. Nkunku, who has struggled with injuries since arriving at Stamford Bridge, could be on the move this summer. 

However, Chelsea is reportedly insisting on a permanent transfer rather than a loan, which could complicate negotiations for the Blaugrana, who are still operating under strict financial regulations.

In addition, Mason Greenwood, currently with Olympique Marseille, has been linked to Barcelona. Although the 22-year-old typically operates on the right wing, his versatility and current form have made him a potential option.

However, Marseille is reportedly reluctant to sell, and Greenwood is also attracting interest from Atletico Madrid, making the race for his signature more competitive.

Bryan Zaragoza, who joined Bayern Munich earlier this year, is another option under consideration. The Spanish winger’s name resurfaced following Bayern’s failed €67.5 million bid for Luis Díaz. Zaragoza is seen as a more attainable target, especially if Bayern are open to negotiations.
